The idea of starting an independent record label in times when the classical music industry faces news challenges (to say the least) sounds slightly mad.
But equally, as all human beings, artists also have the desire to leave a mark, to inspire others, to keep things that are valuable to us alive. And when it comes to recording a repertoire, I have always believed that the more options available to the listener, the better. Each artist will always bring something new, will please some more than others, and by doing that, will keep some forgotten composers and exquisite repertoire alive.
The original idea behind Drama Musica was to create a label that would allow us to launch our own projects, offering our own view, our own flavour and colours to the Early Music repertoire. We wanted to avoid the constraints of traditional labels and concentrate on researching and performing repertoire that was important to us and, most importantly, to keep Early Music alive in the 21st century.
Ideas developed and new exciting projects joined the original thoughts: the creation of DONNE, a collection dedicated to women composers and the strong aim to introduce more Brazilian works and artists to international audiences.
As a female Brazilian artist in the UK, is my strong aim to raise the profile of women composers and promote their music to a wider number of people. Equally, I see challenges faced by so many talented artists in Brazil as the country does not have a CD label dedicated to Classical Music, making very difficult for a classical musician in Brazil to find an international platform to help them to achieve deserved recognition.
As a singer, I had the privilege of working with a high number of very talented musicians all over the world, so finding amazing people to join me in this adventure was a very easy task. I had the privilege of working with some fantastic artists for the recording of our 3 first albums, and from now on our journey continues.
We hope we will continue to make a difference, inspire others and introduce new artists and exciting performances to you all! Watch this space, help us to spread the word and…. #jointhedrama!
